Transdisciplinary online lab & hub in neuroscience and biomedicine through the lens of complexity science

Transcending and working across boundaries through the science of complex adaptive systems, which combines uniquely natural sciences, social sciences, and philosophy.

NeuroCreare was founded to develop a holistic understanding of the interconnected and complex relationships between the brain, mind, body, and world, for the benefit of patients and society.

It is about researching, creating, and solving by thinking across boundaries.

Neurological and medical diseases do not exist in isolation but interact in complex ways with biological, environmental, and psychosocial factors. These interactions require research methodologies that go beyond reductionist methods. Complexity science – an inter- and transdisciplinary framework that explores how relationships between system components lead to emergent behaviours – provides a holistic approach to tackling these challenges.

Using a cross-disciplinary approach sparks creative ideas, solves complex problems, and encourages exciting research beyond traditional boundaries.

Addressing complex problems that cannot be understood or solved by a single discipline or even a combination of academic fields alone. Transdisciplinary research is not just about understanding complex issues but also about developing practical, sustainable solutions. This often involves creating new frameworks or models that can be applied in real-world settings.

Objective

Main Aim: NeuroCreare seeks to develop transdisciplinary methods, tools, solutions, and services that combine traditional scientific approaches with complex adaptive systems (CAS) theories to tackle complex challenges. It offers a suitable framework for investigating the intricate linear and non-linear interactions across various disciplines and services.

Impact

At NeuroCreare, we are passionate about bridging the gap between pure and applied sciences to truly benefit patients and society. By blending traditional scientific methods with complex adaptive systems, we aim to create a harmonious balance between scientific progress and societal needs, fostering lasting impact and growth.

Patient Outcomes

This innovative approach seeks to enhance patient care by identifying bio-clinical, psychosocial, environmental, and digital markers for early prevention/diagnosis, monitoring, and personalised treatments.

The cross-disciplinary approach helps tackle complex problems

We must eliminate divisions and break down barriers both within and outside to understand the complex Brain-Mind-Body-World entanglement. At NeuroCreare, our goal is to reveal the underlying principles, properties, and purpose of the intricate connections between the brain, body, mind, and the world.

The Entangled Brain-Mind-Body-World

Science rests on our experiences of the world. We cannot detach ourselves from the story and narrate it from a God’s-eye perspective. We are immersed in this world (universe).

Exploring Complex Subjective Patient-Reported Outcomes and Experiences. Software specialising in narrative-based mixed methods will be used for exploratory, qualitative, and observational health studies to capture experiences and complement traditional clinical measures.

To Map Subjective-Objective Symptom Relationships in Brain and Mental Health Disorders by combining qualitative and quantitative data. To investigate how subjective patient narratives about symptoms and emotional states align or diverge from clinical assessments and biomedical measurements (e.g., symptom scales, biomarkers) in psychiatric and neurological conditions.

Clinical & Translational Neurology

Identifying and validating bio-psycho-social markers for early diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment.

Biomedicine

Complexity and Predictability in Disease Management.

Explore if chronic and multifactorial medical & neurological disorders can be managed more effectively by categorising them within the Cynefin framework.

Complexity Science

To create an interdisciplinary hub for studying the human brain, biomedical sciences, and neuroscience using complexity science to address critical questions about the brain, mind, consciousness, behaviour, and health.

Digital Health

Development of standardised and digitised clinical rating scales for recording and quantifying clinical symptoms, including algorithm-based feedback systems for clinical research.

Exploring the integration and ethical implications of AI, neurotechnologies, and digital health in patient care and scientific discovery.

Sociocultural Health

Exploring the Impact of biomedical, psychiatric and neurological conditions on social well-being. Software will be used to gather narratives at scale from patients detailing the mental health impact of their conditions, focusing on areas such as social isolation, identity changes, and emotional challenges. Self-signification tools allow participants to categorise these narratives and identify patterns in emotional and social responses.

Scientific-Philosophical Wandering

By using complex adaptive system theories, to address critical questions about the brain, mind, body, world, universe, consciousness, behaviour, health, society, and more.
